Our Framing Story
In the early days of Miimi and Jiinda we use to send all of our artworks off to the framers. This would be a lengthy process, sometimes taking weeks, and we felt removed and discounted to the process.
We were keen to learn more about framing and what materials were used, to try to be as sustainable as possible. So my husband, Abraham. who has an absolute passion for working with recycled timber furniture decided to take it upon himself to learn. We started framing in-house all of our own works, sourcing only sustainable timbers, and now 100% recycled timber. We soon noticed that Abe’s frames were impeccable because of his close attention to detail and thirst for perfection.
After working for a few years in our own garage/shed at home, we now have our own framing workshop next in Urunga NSW on our beautiful Gumbaynngiir homelands, and have a small team of dedicated and passionate framers to support our vision.
We love being able to share with you the whole journey behind your framed artwork, as it has a story of its own.
Our framed pieces come stretched and framed in our beautiful signature Miimi & Jiinda framing. Our frames can be made in either raw oak timber or 100% recycled timber. All of our frames are hand-made, in-house, in our Miimi & Jiinda studio on Gumbaynggirr Country, Urunga NSW.
To use recycled materials is one of the simplest and purest forms of maintaining our beautiful planet. Miimi & Jiinda is dedicated to its continued evolution in finding the best ways to leave our planet better than we found it. Our 100% recycled timber option is made from post consumer Australian hardwoods. Not only is this better for the environment but it creates beautiful frames that tell a story through its reclaimed and reborn wood.
For our raw oak timber framing option we use sustainable, natural timber, ethically sourced, at competitive industry rates. Our signature framing is created using raw, natural coloured timber as it compliments our artwork best.
