Yarilla, Original Painting
Yarilla 'light up, illuminate'
Acrylic On Canvas
164 x 100 cm (recycled timber frame)
This painting is a story of my childhood growing up with an Aboriginal mother, and what that meant to me as a young Goori girl.
Pipis's we used to gather down at the beach, running wild in the sand
Pig Face flower depictions of Bush Tucker plants in the dunes
Big circles, little circles representing Aunties, Uncles and Cousins... our big mob.
And the warm and loving energy of family and our matriacrch, Nan.
This painting symbolises the importance of staying positive and proud amongst adversity, remembering where you came from and what's important to you. To light up and illuminate because we are all important beings living on this land and we all deserve to co exist respectfully together.
