Harpers Bazaar Interview with Miimi and Jiinda
“Our elders would never have dreamed of opportunities like these:” Inside the Indigenous Fashion Projects runway at AAFW 2023
HB: What are you proudest of with this runway and collection?
MG: I am most proud that my collection was all designed on my beautiful Gumbaynggirr Jagun (Country) and made on Bundjalung Jagun. Each piece was created with my hand painted artworks and adorned with Mum’s beautiful hand woven, traditional weavings. I love that each item of clothing is a piece of wearable art.
HB: What do you think the label has to offer the Australian fashion landscape?
MG: I think it offers an Indigenous narrative, one of cultural pride & integrity. It offers bright and bold designs that have been handpainted, deep in meaning and rich with storytelling.
