Introducing Bambuuda Garlaawirr: A New Collection by Miimi & Jiinda
Miimi & Jiinda is proud to unveil our newest collection, Bambuuda Garlaawirr — a deeply spiritual body of work that honours the beginning of all creation.
In Gumbaynggirr language, Bambuuda Garlaawirr means “first light.” It refers to that sacred time in the Dreaming when our hero ancestors brought the earth to life: when the first sun rose, the first moon glowed, and the first waterways carved their way across the land. It was a time of pure power and possibility - a time when all that is came into being.
This collection speaks to that moment. To those first stories. To the energy that still moves through Country, and through us.
The Spirit Behind the Designs
Each garment in Bambuuda Garlaawirr was designed on Gumbaynggirr jagun (Country), where our founder and artist Melissa Greenwood draws inspiration from the land, the sky, and the stories passed down through generations. The pieces were then ethically and mindfully created in Sydney, in collaboration with local makers who share our commitment to sustainability, care, and respect.
Soft and flowing silhouettes give this collection its elegant, feminine feel while remaining grounded in strength. Every design speaks to the radiance of new beginnings. From earthy tones to hand-drawn motifs, each piece embodies our belief that fashion can hold deep cultural meaning and be a force for connection.
One-of-a-Kind Garments
Alongside the main collection, Bambuuda Garlaawirr includes a small number of one-of-a-kind pieces - hand-painted and hand-sewn by Melissa herself. These garments are not only wearable, they’re artworks in their own right. Made with intention, they carry a story and a spirit all their own.
You can catch early glimpses of these special pieces on our Instagram, where we’re sharing behind-the-scenes moments in the lead-up to launch.
Pre-Orders Open Friday, 16 May
The Bambuuda Garlaawirr collection will be available for pre-order from Friday, 16 May at 10am. As a slow fashion brand, we produce in small batches to reduce waste and honour our values of mindful creation. Once sold out, many of these pieces will not be repeated.

Our Debut at Australian Fashion Week
This powerful new collection will make its public debut on the runway at Australian Fashion Week 2025, as part of the Next Gen presented by Shark Beauty showcase — held at Carriageworks in Sydney on Friday, 16 May.
This is a significant milestone for Miimi & Jiinda. It’s our first time showing at AFW — and we’re stepping onto the runway not just as designers, but as storytellers, culture keepers, and proud Gumbaynggirr women.
“To be invited to showcase at Australian Fashion Week is an important time in history, it’s a new dawn for Indigenous designers in the mainstream space,” says Melissa Greenwood.
“This collection speaks to ours hero ancestors — the very first light, the first breath of life. To bring that onto the runway is incredibly emotional and empowering. It’s our way of keeping our stories alive through fashion.”
The Next Gen program celebrates visionary designers who are shaping the future of Australian fashion — and we are proud to walk among them with a collection rooted in our history, our spirit, and the importance of caring for Country.
