Miimi & Jiinda Launch Their European Debut at Paris Fashion Week
We are excited to share that Miimi & Jiinda, our Aboriginal-owned, female-led First Nations fashion house, is making its European debut at Paris Fashion Week. This moment is about more than fashion: it is an opportunity to carry ancestral stories, matriarchal wisdom, and our deeply lived values onto the global stage. As a First Nations brand guided by matriarchal leadership, we are proud to mark a historic first, bringing our vision, our stories, and the spirit of our culture to the European luxury fashion stage. We’re also delighted to reveal that, as part of our European debut and to ensure the highest standards of sustainable craft, we are beginning a collaboration with family-led heritage ateliers in Portugal.
Our Matriarchal Story
Miimi & Jiinda is more than fashion. It is a vessel for cultural memory and ancestral storytelling, born from the bond between mother and daughter. Our name, meaning “Mother and Sister” in Gumbaynggirr, embodies matriarchal strength, kinship, and cultural continuity. Together we transform weaving, painting, and storytelling into art forms that traverse the boundaries of fashion, culture, and ceremony.
From our acclaimed Australian Fashion Week runways to winning the Business Achievement Award at the 2025 National Indigenous Fashion Awards, we have consistently championed reclamation, female leadership, and Indigenous storytelling. Paris marks a milestone for the brand and a wider recognition of First Nations culture, blending sustainable innovation in fashion with the ancestral knowledge of the world’s oldest living culture.
A Fashion Collection Rooted in Country: Gaagal Wanggaan
For Spring/Summer 2026, we are unveiling a preview of our new collection, Gaagal Wanggaan, meaning “South Beach” in Gumbaynggirr. This deeply personal collection honours our traditional homelands, reclaimed through Native Title, the legal recognition of our traditional homelands, after a 16-year struggle in which our grandmother played a pivotal role. Its palette of soft coastal blues, deep ocean greens, and sandy neutrals is inspired by the rhythm of waves, the Bindarray River, and the ever-changing coastal light. Fluid, timeless silhouettes paired with natural, sustainably sourced fabrics create wearable ceremonies, pieces that carry the spirit, memory, and stories of Country wherever they are worn.
During Paris Fashion Week, the collection will be presented in a dedicated showroom, giving press, buyers, and industry insiders an exclusive first look at this collection that blends tradition, culture, and craftsmanship.
Attending Paris Fashion Week? Join us for an exclusive preview of our upcoming Gaagal Wanggaan collection at our showroom, 1–7 October 2025, 9 Rue de Beauce, 75003 Paris.
Sustainably Luxury and Craft as Culture
For Miimi & Jiinda, sustainability is inseparable from culture. Alongside our Australian-made pieces, we are beginning to collaborate on our upcoming European collection with family-led ateliers in Portugal, in a historic village dating back to 15 BC, the same region where leading luxury houses create their garments. These ateliers, ongoingly led by women in their fourth generation, embody a lineage of craft that beautifully reflects Gumbaynggirr values of kinship and continuity.
We work only with high-quality, natural, and responsibly sourced fabrics including European Flax-certified linen, organic cotton, silks, and low-impact denim. Smaller runs and woven adornments continue to be created on Country in Australia, ensuring a living connection to our homelands and community. Each garment is designed to be timeless, collectible, and ceremonial, proof that true luxury can celebrate cultural regeneration, sustainable craft, and deep connection to both Country and Earth.
Starting our European Journey
Our Paris debut is just the beginning of Miimi & Jiinda’s European journey, paving the way for a full launch in 2026. Rooted in matriarchal wisdom, cultural integrity, and sustainable luxury, our creations carry the ancestral stories of Gumbaynggirr Country, transforming fashion into a vessel for recognition, regeneration, and collective healing.
