Business Achievement Award: Miimi & Jiinda
Label Miimi & Jiinda was founded in 2018 by Gumbaynggirr, Bundjalung, and Dunghutti woman Melissa Greenwood. It began as a way for Greenwood, who initially studied criminology, to spend time with her mother, Lauren Jarrett, who was a survivor of the Stolen Generations. The duo used art as a conduit for bonding between family through art.
What began as a market stall to share their works with others, soon evolved into a business that has now collaborated with brands like Jurlique and Seed. Miimi & Jiinda is now one of Australia’s best-known First Nations-owned brands, and sells art as well as ready-to-wear clothing.
