Barrmarrany Miingi (Family Spirit)

This painting is my interpretation Northern Gumbaynggirr Country, my grandmothers country, it represents my elders and their childhood growing up on Gumbaynggirr Country before they were taken by the government officials and put into orphanages. My mum was 1 of 14 siblings, all stolen from their loving mother & father as part of the stolen generation. This painting reflects the innocence, playfulness, love, kindness, cultural connection to the land, waterways, dreaming and creation stories that they all hold within them, in their spirit and DNA. This could never be taken from them. You will see in the painting Corindi Creek, pippies, bush fruits, waterways, Jagun Country and at the centre, the core of their love and spirit that is so strong and above all, unbreakable.
